Math at Home: Helping Your Children Birth to Age 5 Learn and Enjoy Mathematics

How can you help parents give young children their first positive experience in mathematics? The California Mathematics Council (CMC) believes the first five years of children’s lives are a critical time for learning, and that parents play a critical role in supporting their children’s earliest mathematics learning. In addition to engaging and learning in this fast paced workshop, you will be able to take this presentation to use with your families and community members! This resource was developed by the California Mathematics Council’s Professional Development Committee and was funded by a grant from the Heising-Simons Foundation.

Limited Capacity seats available

Students learn mathematics when they play games that encourage them to translate between various representations of a concept. In this session, participants will analyze the components of various games that support students in understanding mathematical concepts. We will engage in the process of playing and unpacking research in order to identify practices that can support the implementation of standards and mathematical practices which encourage students to learn mathematics through play.
